Karin Gudmundson

“I have always had a passion for art and a love for nature and biological science. I believe the world is a beautiful place where the smallest of creatures or splash of color makes a moment special.

I can lay in wait, surrounded by nature to simply watch a series of events take place. The sunsets in winter or a stingray basking along the shoreline. Each with its own unique meaning that contributes to the balance of all. I see vast spaces of color, noticing how each one blends into the other and capture the mixture in my mind and then transform it onto canvas.

The biologist in me is fascinated by the world and its beauty. I want to know how it is created, how it changes and how moves through life.

I love to travel, kayak and hike always mystified by what I see. New experiences and challenges help develop my art and my paintings. Moments captured in time for others to enjoy and experience.

I have always done some form of artwork, dappling in silver-smith and sculpture, but painting and photography are my two loves. I love to paint extremely large pieces and tend to work until the piece speaks at a finishing point. Color and texture depict what I see around me. My paintings tend to have distinctive flow that spread color and texture across the canvas.

My photography is bold yet captures nature in a simplistic way. I always want to take just one more step, climb one more mountain or wait patiently for hours for the perfect image or vision to transfer to my artwork.”

Last Wednesday was a spectacular evening for Art Night on the Bayfront. The weather was great, we had 40 artists showing their work, musicians in 2 different locations and the sunset was art in itself.

This event will continue through the end of the year. The artists have their tents and lighting and are prepared to have their work on display till at least 8PM for both the November and December events.

Don’t forget to join us tomorrow night from 5-8PM inside Jaco’s for Art à la carte where you will have a chance to meet Novembers featured artist…

Chenin Blanc

Tropical fruit, guava and apple aromas. The bold sweet citrus falvours are backed by refreshing acidity and minerality, a characteristic of our coastal vineyards. A versatile food wine to go with most poultry, fish and salad dishes. Also fabulous as an aperitif for a hot summer afternoon. Serve chilled.

Distinctive aromas of ripe plum and pepper spices, mouth-filling sweet red-berry flavours and gentle tannins characterize this wine. A touch of Viognier was co-fermented with the Shiraz for the aromatic lift it gives to the wine, which emphasises the berry fruit and spice aromas on the nose. The American oak barrels give a hint of vanilla spice and contribute to the smooth silky tannins. Serve at a cool room temperature.
