Photography has taught me to see. Before photography I could only look. Seeing is much more exciting. It is my hope that through my work you will be able to see more clearly the created  world and the world we continue to create.

I have always felt that music touches the soul in a way that nothing else does. Music helps one feel the power beyond. But maybe song is not singular with this endeavor. Maybe art can strike the soul as powerfully as music.

Some of my most exciting work is the time when I am alone behind the lens. My calmest time in life is at night shooting a scene that cannot normally be seen but is always there; the milky way, an hour after sunset with the rich blue sky, a blue heron standing in the water on a foggy night. Life is always around us if we can only see.

George DeWolfe, a master printer said  “A masterpiece is a simple act of responding authentically to the world in a moment of time.” When I click the shutter I may be in a crowd of people or I may be in a gentle breeze but I am always alone looking through the lens trying to capture the moment, not a second in time but that fleeting moment.

I enjoy the creative process. It is my hope that my images provide you many moments of enjoyment.

September 2015 Featured Artist

Christy Hayes is an emerging artist, who was born and raised in the South.  She graduated from UAB, in Birmingham, Alabama, with a B.S. in English and Fine Art.

In the last 16 years, Christy has lived in Northern California, Connecticut, Alabama, and Georgia.  During those years, her paintings went from mostly acrylic works, to watercolors, to paper paintings, to oil paintings, and lately, poured acrylic abstracts.  She is inspired by Norman Rockwell, American Impressionist painters, seasons, moments, and personal photographs.

While living in Connecticut, she was a member of the West Hartford Art League, and was exhibited in a juried Canton Artist Guild show, and two juried West Hartford Art League shows.  Recently, Christy’s work was shown at the Marietta Museum of Art, in Marietta, Georgia, as a part of the Trilogy Show.  She continues her art education through classes and workshops, and regularly tries to learn something outside of her usual mediums, in order to improve her craft.  She also teaches Drawing and Collage classes for children and adults.

Lisa Mella Burridge

Screen Shot 2015-07-20 at 11.42.43 AM

In viewing her artwork, one would have to say that Lisa Mella Burridge’s philosophy is definitely art imitates life. Grounded in Realism, and self-taught, her style is an attempt to celebrate life by paying close attention to detail, trying to capture it but humbly accepting that it is impossible to improve on it. Immortalizing the emotion in a child’s portrait, the serenity of a beachscape or the simple beauty of the colors in a blue crab are some of the motivating factors for Lisa’s artistic endeavors.

Born and raised in the south, with its great natural diversity, there is never a shortage of subject matter for her to choose from. She enjoys working mostly on a collaborative and commissioned basis, in order to highlight the importance of the client’s vision, taste, and personal style. Teaching is another way Lisa nurtures her passion for art. With 14 years experience, she owns and operates her own business, MellaART, where she teaches children in an extracurricular After School Art program as well as private lesson for children, adults and groups. She is involved in the community, where she teaches for the local colleges and often volunteers her time and skills in order to “give back”.

“All my life, even as a young child, I’ve been able to draw and paint. It was a source of self esteem and naturally evolved into a self-fulfilling prophesy. I consider it to be a gift and like all gifts, should be shared freely. Enjoy.”

Join us for our June Featured Artist , Tobbe Byrd

Wednesday, June 3rd from 5-8pm, we welcome,

Tobbe Byrd

Being a Pensacola, Florida native I have access to all the treasures of the Gulf of Mexico. It has given me many subjects to transform into metal works of art. Each piece of art is created by hand; therefore no one piece is identical.

I have been diving and fishing for over 20 years and have seen my subjects in their natural environment. I use this to my advantage in trying to make each piece of aquatic art as realistic as possible.

All of the pieces are hand drawn and then cut with a manually operated plasma cutter.  Once the pieces have been cut out I de-burr and polish them.

This gives you the final product that you see… Enjoy!

May 2015 Featured Artist

 Jeff Spade

Jeff Grew up in Southeast Michigan, and attended Airport Community High School in
Carleton. Received a Fine Arts Scholarship to Monroe County Community College
studying both Painting and Ceramics. Later majored in Graphic Design/Illustration at
Oakland Community College, received Associates Degree of Arts and Science; also
attended Center for Creative Studies, Detroit, MI., for advanced design. Business
owner of ACEART since 2002.

Artist Statement:
Painting imaginative abstract formations on canvas has been my favorite subject for
many years.  Acrylics- as a primary medium using a mix of “Old World” color with a
“New World” contemporary look and feel. I am determined to work each piece a little
different with texture and color. These fundamental basics have been the balance and
break though for many of the works. Painting with more open flare and expression
seems to release new attitudes and sensations, thus allowing my sub consciousness to
take over on shapes. “Having the freedom to paint with all my devotion has made a
tremendous impact on how I do things now…with all the disciplines and traditional
restraints now broken, one gets a feeling from the work that clearly demonstrates this
display of passion and freedom”

2015 PSC Advanced Photography Sunset Photo Contest Winner

Erin Amis

My name is Erin Amis. I am a small town girl from the Mississippi Gulf Coast. I was fortunate enough to grow up with loving supporting parents, an identical twin sister, and a beautiful cousin. I struggled with what I wanted to do with my life, but I knew I wanted to do something towards photography. My models started off as our family pets and stuffed animals, seriously. I chose to attend Pensacola State College for photography being that it was close to the beach, of which I enjoy. Now as it turns out, when I’m not doing photography, I’m doing photography. Photography is my calling, my profession, and the thing that will undoubtably drive me insane someday.
